Creating a Plan for Home Maintenance in the New Year

As we approach the new year, it’s a good time to think about our resolutions. While it’s easy to focus on personal goals, it’s also important to consider the upkeep and maintenance of our homes – one of our most valuable financial assets. By taking a organized approach to maintaining your property, you can maximize its value when it comes time to sell. Here are some tips for creating home resolutions that you’ll actually stick to in the new year:

  1. Make a plan: List out all the maintenance tasks your home needs throughout the year and schedule them out over the next 12 months. Prioritize the most urgent tasks and spread the others out evenly to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  2. Book tradies now: Some jobs are best left to the experts, such as servicing the gas heater and air conditioner or cleaning the gutters and downpipes. Avoid the frustration of trying to book them during their busiest times by making appointments now.
  3. Deep clean and declutter: Every home can benefit from a purge of unused belongings. Start by going room by room, with a focus on the most used areas like the kitchen and living room.
  4. Bring nature home: A simple but impactful resolution is to always have flowers in the house. They add life and color to any space, and in the summertime, try using native blooms which will last longer in the heat.
